Gone fishin’ June 4, 2004

flukecaptreeYesterday was spent out on a boat, fishing with Gracie’s class. I was kind of dreading the field trip, as I am not a big boat fan—especially smelly fishing charter boats. I was pleasantly surprised. I even caught a fish but it was about ½” too small so it went back to the sea. Other kids and parents caught starfish, a skate, sea robins and one child even caught his eyelid. Can we have a collective eewww? He was okay, it was a scrape. Gracie didn’t catch anything but she was inventive with her bait—popcorn and PB&J sandwich. One mom, while reeling in her SunDial, whacked me in the back with her fish. I contemplated bringing my knitting but I am glad I didn’t. It was fun to focus all of my attention on Gracie and what she was doing. I really enjoyed myself and agreed to go again this summer.

Speaking of summer, there are three weeks left till school ends. We are going away on a short vacation too. Yippee! We will be going to Hilton Head. We haven’t been in two years…the last time we went was right after we received Owen’s diagnosis of autism. I hope he does okay. Goodness knows he has gained so many skills since then. I have a parent training at his school today. I specifically requested we ride the scooter boards.

I have been working on Gracie’s Katia top from the Marilyn Along. I used the Mandarin Petit, as Kerstin did because it was cheap and readily available from Wool Needlework Discounter. They have such great prices and the shop owner is lovely to deal with—just placed another order yesterday. It couldn’t be helped—they sent a coupon. I am also trying to finish up Cameron’s sock. I had planned to wash the Mission Falls Cotton today but am quite tempted to go see Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban instead. Kevin and I have been fighting over who gets to take Cameron and Gracie. I could take myself right out of the loop…it’s on the way to Owen’s school.

One more thing. Here is the yarn I won from Kay and Ann for the Afghan for Afghanalongs. Any suggestions for it? I love this color. They are missing South Carolina on their map. I am going to send my next squares from Hilton Head.

My kids’ last day of school is today — if you can even call it a day, they only went for 2 hours!! A&M will be going to see Harry Potter this afternoon. Hilton Head sounds so nice. That yarn? I don’t know… but, wow, it’s nice!

School is letting out earlier and earlier every year..I remember being in school till at least mid-June. Since I don’t have any kids yet (knock on wood), I rely on my aunts and friends for kid info. Toady are my cousins last day of school too. Have a great time at Hilton Head–I need to do a google search to see what it’s like–I’ve never heard of it before.

Ahh, Hilton Head! I love it. Actually, any SC beach is wonderful. Isn’t it weird to travel all the way from Long Island to go to another beach? Are the beaches very different?

That yarn looks absolutely heavenly. And a great color for you. Make something wonderful for YOURSELF! 🙂
