Counting Kersti August 24, 2004

The good news is that my Kersti sleeves are finished. The bad news is that my miscalculations were so far off that I will be ripping them back to before the decreases. That’s what I get for altering the pattern, unaltering it and then altering it again without writing it down the second time. One sleeve is a bit longer than the other and may be wider too.

As you can see, the shoulder ribbing is not the same. I swear they looked exactly alike when I started the decreases. Oh well. I hope she survives the rip. Other knitters have said she doesn’t rip more than once. That’ll teach me to pay attention, huh? Have many other Kersti knitters come across knots in the skeins. I think this was my second knot in my 4th skein…It was interesting. Kersti is a 3 ply and one of the 3 plies was knotted the other 2 were not. And it had a white spot from the tie off. One of the more interesting knots I have come across.

Well to cheer me up through my Kersti disaster, I bought this poncho pattern and yarn from Granny’s Shoppe. Granny cornered/suckered me as soon as I walked in. She said it only took 2 skeins. Mind you, I wasn’t even looking for a poncho. I love Granny.

My mom and I are off to Three Black Sheep yarn shop tomorrow and the kids are going fishing with Grandpa. Have a great night.

Man, how did you swing that? A visit to a yarn shop sans children? I only get to do that when I am teaching and then I don’t have much time to shop.

Poncho, yum. I finally posted my knitting pictures and I’m all about the poncho right now. Finishing one for my mom–very cute, very bright. I’m currently trolling for a winter pattern. I think that I’m going to go with the free pattern at http://www.fuzzygalore.biz but I do love the lacy one that was just finished at chicknits.com–no pattern, free or otherwise on that one though.

Don’t you hate it when you do that? I make occasional little changes to a pattern thinking I will surely remember what I did for the matching piece. EVERY time I do this I swear I am going to take copious notes next time I start a project.

That’s quite a neat poncho. I like it. A lot.

I hope the Kersti will work out for you and will survive another rip. I’m so bad about writing alterations down……. and you think you’ll remember and then you put it down for days, no weeks, no months…… and will you remember. NO? The story of my life….

That’s such a striking poncho; I really like it. I just started the Loretta Lynn from Berroco.

Suckered by granny! haha! There was a sign at one of the LYS’s that I frequent that said “Your Poncho Headquarters.” Unbelievable. I like the one that Granny suckered you into. Will be fun to watch you knit up!

That’s such a pretty poncho! Sorry about your Kersti sleeves. I think they’ll rip just fine. I had no problem even when I rip several times. Boohoo!

WOW, only 2 skiens. That’s going to suck a whole lot of others in I think…

I’m knitting the Sally raglan in Kersti, too, and I’m about halfway through the sleeves. I haven’t had much knotting in the skeins I’ve already used, but one of the ones I’m using on a sleeve has a couple of knots that I notice when I was winding it into a ball.

In an effort to avoid mismatched sleeves, I’m knitting these at the same time, which usually works well for me. However, this time around I’ve managed to get off track a few times, too. I think it’s because this sweater doesn’t have an obvious right and wrong side.

    Good luck with the frogging!
