Pictures tomorrow…I promise or scarf me out the door December 13, 2004

Well, I have decided against sending Christmas/Holiday cards this year.  The last one we received–with the letter detailing their perfect lives–put me over the edge.  To heck with it!  I feel a little bit bad but I am almost over it.

I haven’t felt like knitting…at all.  It could be the pressure of these stinkin’ scarves.  Can you sense the ba humbug around here?  I had just finished the one for the Resource Room teacher and was getting ready to drop my stitches when I noticed my count was off.  I had inadvertently decreased 2 stitches somewhere.  I decided to modify my drops by recalculating with my new numbers.  Well, I guess I found the lost stitches.  What was meant to be a four stitch band of knitting became six–much too wide!  RIP!  And we all know how well mohair yarns rip.  Ugh.

Today I have to tidy up.  My MIL is coming over this evening to hang out with Owen as Gracie and Cameron have a holiday event at school that Owen would not enjoy.  And Ann is coming over tomorrow.  I would like to make some cookies too…must impress Ann with my culinary wonders!

We had Owen’s Holiday party yesterday.  It was a lot of fun.  It was nice to be so relaxed and among people who "get it".  There were a couple of bouncy castles, pizza, crafts and Santa.  Owen gave Santa a High 5 and even hugged him!  Woohoo.  They were videotaping siblings for the Dinner Dance Video–the annual tear jerker.  I knew Gracie would do the video beautifully but I was reluctant to put Cameron in as he has some difficulty expressing himself.  Gracie was fabulous and got compliments all around.  Although her hair was pretty messy from bouncing and she hadn’t washed all of the conditioner out–so there was a greasy patch!  Cameron was a big hit!  A couple of my favorites were when asked what he wants to be when he grows up, he said a vet.  The videographer asked, "What?"  and Cam said, "You know, a vegetarian."  And when asked one word to describe his brother, Cam said, "I love him."

Rats on Christmas knitting! Enjoy this time of year through the eyes of your children and leave the adult stuff behind. You’ll have loads more fun.

I’ve given up on Christmas cards and knitted gifts this year and I am feeling much less stressed. The holidays should be fun so enjoy them. Say hi to Ann for me!

Some of those Christmas letters are rather nauseating, to say the least. For the first time in my adult life, I sent cards with no letters this year. We’ve had a crappy year and I just couldn’t do the letter.

I agree with the letters. I haven’t sent out more than a handful of cards in the last several years, and it does take a lot of stress off. But the one or two we get every year with letters are, as Brenda said, nauseating. The thing is, especially when you know the truth is not nearly as rosy and The Picture of Perfection they’re forcing themselves to project, it just seems even worse. I love the relation of the Cam on Camera story! Cuter than anything!

The holiday issue’s …I can relate.
Laughed regarding Gracie, wait until she’s just alittle older and she’ll never get out of the shower..her hair will squeak!

mmmmm cookies!! can’t wait …. email me directions and also what time – can I just eat the cookies or do I need to find a knitting project?

You know – sometimes you just have to do what is right for you and yours. It’s just too easy to get caught up in the stuff of this season. Given the choice between the people and the things – I choose the people. And given the choice between stressing myself to the hilt and going with the flow – well you guessed it…. Thanks for your continued thoughts – you and yours are in mine as well.

Awwwww….what a swell kid. I decided early on I would only knit for one person a gift, for the rest I’ll purchase…next year maybe I’ll knit for two people…as it is I feel pressure. People here from me the whole time anyway, via bulk email…so no annual letter from me…havn’t decided if to send real cards or online ones…we’ll see, how much time I have.
I have photos on line of my son and his holiday part. I’ll send it to you via email.

I understand completely about those “letters”. I confess to throwing away two last year unopened as I just couln’t deal with them. My card list has been cut back significantly for a variety of reasons, too. I vowed no Christmas knitting this year except for a scarf or two, and nothing that couldn’t be knocked off in a night or two. It is freeing. If now I could only allow myself to make ONE type of Christmas cookie and be at peace with my decision!! PS Love the color of your blue yarn (for your Clapotis, or however you spell it, scarf!)

One of my very oldest friends sent me a letter this year that began, “oh the weather outside is frightful, so we’re going to Maui for the holidays!”

I can’t kill her, because she is an old friend, but when faced with laughing or crying, I chose laughing. Then I threw up. (Just kidding!)
