Rosemary’s Little Sweater June 29, 2005

Rosemarys_little_sweater_on_hammock Rosemary’s Little Sweaters are finished.  The blue was knit in Green Mountain Spinnery Mountain Mohair.  The  is color Lupine on sizes US 8 and 9.  It took just under 3 skeins.  The second was knit in Lamb’s Pride Worsted.  The color is Oatmeal, I think.  Same needles and I think it took just under 2 skeins.  The Lamb’s Pride is heavier than the Mountain Mohair.  But I like them both.  Obviously, the LP was much more economical at $13.  The blue will be gifted to Kevin’s niece.  (Cause Ann and Peggy and Ricki thought it was too girly for a boy).  The oatmeal is off to Kevin’s coworker.  It was a simple and quick little knit.  Perfect for gifts.

I think we are leaving tomorrow morning.  I am not packed.  Kevin and Gracie are though.  I think not flying has kinked my travel anxiety. Owen, I believe, is excited.  I was showing him pictures of the water fun park.  He loved that place.  I am definately taking a sock but need to think of something else.  I considered starting Rogue.  However, that may require too much work locating the yarn.  I really need to organize that stash!

We have internet access in Hilton Head.  Maybe even high speed.  So, I’ll be seeing you.

Summer vacation begins, take 2 June 27, 2005

You know, you think you are in a good mood until you write a long, heartfelt and well written post that disappears when you hit save.  I had the whole house to myself with Owen off to school and the other two sleeping.  Cam’s up.  He’s showing me old teeth.

As I was saying…we fired Owen’s teacher.  Actually Kevin did.  I fired the last one.  It stinks.  I was expecting to be all sad and stuff.  ‘Cause it’s going to be hard until we can find a new one but we got a wonderful surprise.  One of Owen’s teachers from his past is on his team for the summer.  This teacher is the one who said she had never seen a child "skyrocket" like Owen did.  Of course, he’s not skyrocketing right now but I adore her.  She is loud and boisterous with her verbal praise and the kids love her for it.  I love her for teaching me how to deal with tantrums–especially the jelly leg treatment.

My mom reknit the collar on the Green Mountain Spinnery kid’s sweater.  I am on the second sleeve of my Lamb’s Pride one.  Collar to be worked with motherly input.  What to start next?  I recently came across Kevin’s Dale sweater–hiding behind winter coats yet to be stored.  St. Brigid needs some attention too but as we are driving down to Hilton Head on Thursday, I think some less thoughtful knitting needs to accompany me.  I was thinking of a sock.  Maybe the one I put aside a couple of months ago.  Regia cotton, I think.

Bad_closet_1 Last, I need to work on this over the summer.  Maybe an Excel spreadsheet?  This is the worst of it but there are a few other smaller storage spots.

Cashmerino Aran by Debbie Bliss any thoughts?  Good or bad for baby garments?

Two posts in a day.  What is the world coming to?  I didn’t mean to sound so downcast in the last post.  It was a real thrill to meetup with Cara and Vicki and Lauren.  Ann, well, she’s always fun to hang out with.  I understand what Cara meant when she said Ann should "bust out more".  Ann is very funny–great to banter with.  I love me some bantering.  Which Granny and I did today.

Granny had me come in ’cause she tends to overdo it in the yarn buying.  I try to keep her feet on the ground and her head out of the clouds.  And we were doing pretty good.  She got past the Katia and Gedifra quite easily.  I walked away to help a customer and the woman ordered more Noro than we could possibly know what to do with!  I love Noro–so I am not too terribly disappointed.

In other exciting news, both my kids moved up to 2nd and 6th grade.  Cameron got the teacher we were hoping for.  Gracie got a fabulous report card and her schedule will come in the mail over the summer.  Middle school!

Anyway, Cara thank you for organizing such a fun day.  I was glad to be a part of it.  Vicki, it was a delight to meet you and Rusty.  Lauren, you were like an added bonus.  And that Ann, she’s a gem.

A long day

Yesterday I trekked into the city to meet up with Vicki, Ann, Cara and Lauren.  Everything was squared away…my mom and dad were babysitting and making dinner.  Macaroni and cheese, salad and flaky biscuits.  Gracie’s request.  Owen’s teacher was there and would be leaving just about dinner time.  Gracie would make Owen a mini pizza or bagel.  Doh.  I forgot my cell phone in my car.  And Owen’s teacher didn’t leave and wouldn’t take no for an answer from Owen regarding the mac and cheese.  From what I hear, much yelling and kicking ensued.  Sigh.

I am annoyed because this guy stayed longer than the 2 hours.  Owen’s day is long enough.  And I am annoyed that he overstepped the boundaries in pushing a new food on my kid without my permission or my presence!  My parents are old enough to be his parents.  And I think it was disrespectful to them to throw himself–and subsequently them–into this situation.  Sigh.  Kevin is calling his agency today.

On a happier note, it was wonderful to finally meet Vicki.  I truly believed I would meet her in WI–on my way to knitting camp.  So, it was a delight to meet her in NYC.  I found them at the Yarn Connection, a shop I had never been to before.  I picked up a couple of hanks of Manos for my mom’s addiction.  Then we walked over to the NY Public Library and sat and knit and chatted.  Lauren had to part ways and we went off to find the best pizza NYC has to offer.  John’s Pizza–but which one–I am not sure.

After dinner we went back to Vicki’s hotel to examine the pillow menu and found Rusty, her husband.  Wow, what a cool guy with an amazing art experience going on.  Fascinating.  I don’t think we hear enough about Rusty!  And then Cara and Georgie-yup, I met the Georgie–drove Ann and I to Penn Station where we began our long journey back to Long Island.  Why did we not know the LIE was closed?  Was it after 1am that I got home?  I don’t even know.

I am off to Granny’s this morning.  The rep from Knitting Fever is coming.  My mom is coming back again.  It’s the last day of school for Cameron and Gracie.  I think it’s an hour.

Today seemed like a somewhat productive day.  I finished all obligatory novelty scarf knitting.  I even finished one I am knitting for a friend–whose sister teaches at the school and is my dream 3rd grade teacher for Cameron.  Okay, I still need to fringe it but I can do that tonight.  I also finished the Scooby_and_pulse_warmers_006 black and white pulsewarmers I was knitting.  There they are soaking in a Euclan bath.  Cool picture, huh?  At least I think so!  Once they dry they will be sent off to their intended recipient.  I have two more on the needles.

We have a new St. Brigid Knit Alonger.  Please welcome Felicia of Sweet Georgia to the group.  She takes lovely photographs and is currently trying to decide upon a color of Blackwater Abbey yarn.

I have Scooby sitting here in my lap–as he likes to do when I am at the laptop.  So I will end with a picture of him from the weekend entitled Kitty P0rn.
