Wood_floors_for_kev_and_katy_1 Life has been crazy.  The hardwood floors were finally installed.  However, not enough wood was ordered.  Argh.  Lowes is driving me nuts.  We left Gracie’s room to be finished last.  She is comfy enough on the floor.  Kevin and I still haven’t moved in.  Those windows are very expensive to cover.  So I remain happy in my old and cramped DARK bedroom.

Cameron is over the moon in his room.  Literally and figuratively!Cams_room  We bought the bunkbeds for he and Owen when we lived in MA but had to

un-bunk do to ceiling height restrictions and autism.  Obviously, we need a new mattress for guests!  We also got Cam his very own Japanese fish.  He has been asking for one for ages!  The desk was a fabulous find at the Pottery Barn outlet.  It was called Cameron and we couldn’t leave without it.

Owens_tent_bed We were very worried that Owen would not want to be in his own room.  In the basement, when put to bed, Owen would often come back upstairs and say "Cam" or "I want Cam" or "Cam–good night" or even "Cam–jamas".  This guy doesn’t talk much but he didn’t want to be without his mate.  Kevin set up the bed last Saturday and Owen spent the day in and out of bed and pajamas!  He hoarded all the blankets, books and videos he could find–along with a bagel and juice–and settled in.  Such a relief.

Another relief is Owen’s meeting came and went fairly easily.  He will be staying in the same program but moving buildings in July.  They did reduce his home hours over the summer but only by 20% (equals 2 hours).  I am okay with that.  They didn’t mention residential once but I also didn’t let them corner me.

Broadripple_in_elann Knitting…not much.  I need to finish the corners on the blanket.  They were presenting a bit of a challenge to me so I will have to fudge it as best I can.  I wanted to start a sock in the lovely Lorna’s Laces Kris sent to me but I couldn’t find any 1’s.  I could find 3’s so a Broadripple Sock was started in stash yarn.

Autism Every Day is a 13 minute video that shows what it is like to live with autism every day.  Not every child is the same as it is a spectrum disorder.  But they have many similarities.  Be warned–it is sad and even a bit disturbing.  I found it to be well done and thought I would share.

Owen is on his very first field trip EVER with his afternoon respite program.  I asked them not to lose him.  Next week is his education meeting.  I am a bit nervous about it as they are bringing up residential placement more and more frequently.  He’s not going anytime soon.

Falling out of love May 17, 2006

Perhaps we had spent too much time together…

I was so devoted to you and you alone.

Never had I been so faithful to one.

It seamed we could do no wrong.

I never wanted to let you go.

I thought we were meant to be…

My eyes and heart began to wander.

And I knew it was over.

I had fallen out of love.

Falling_out_of_love_7 Seriously, the seaming had started so beautifully.  Yesterday I skewed it something fierce.  And now it is like I can do no right.  UGH!  And I still have to pick up all around the outside.

In other exciting news, I picked up some crap from my mom’s house.  She is on One_womans_trash a wild binge of yarn purging.  Who can’t use a bit of Naturespun?  And the dish cloth cotton will be a lovely something from Mason Dixon Knitting.  The tam…how could I let her throw out the tam?  I figure I may felt it into a pin cushion.  What the heck, right?

Fun day yesterday at Chez Swine.  Fab soup, terrific sandwiches and delicious cake!  And the company, of course, was terrific!  Hardwood floors are being installed as I write.  And the electrical inspector is supposed to show up sometime today.  Moving along…

A lovely afternoon May 8, 2006

Was spent with Ann.  I hadn’t quite finished tidying up but she was very understanding.  That Ann–she’s a doll.  She even came with a gift!  My very own signed copy of Kay and Ann’s book!  So cool.  We knit and chatted.  I had a bit of a coffee accident with the maker.  We survived.  I had offered to make scones–’cause Ann is the hostess with the mostess.  And I am not.  The dear declined.  We did, however, have a lovely salad at a local establishment called Cafe Mojo.  It’s all good–soups, salads, wraps.  I love the Mojo Salad with yummy mozzarella and grilled chicken.  Mmm…

Blankie Still working on the baby blanket.  Seaming it went easier than I expected.  I still have one and a half strips to go.  I am also picking up all around for the edging.  I think that will be horrible to do but it will look nice and bring it all together.  I am thinking ahead to the next project.  I am feeling some pangs twinges of St. Brigid guilt.  I am also thinking of the Lace Leaf Shawl I started last summer with the lovely yarn from Margene.  I am still set on knitting down the stash.  A felted vest for Kevin would be quick to knit and move a few skeins.  Do you see what that bad cat did to Owen’s trampoline?  So naughty!

More_than_half_way I wish I had been a little more discriminative in my placement of squares.  While I had the best intention…laziness, I guess, got in the way.  I attempted to draw the blanket design but it didn’t work.  I then decided to cut squares individually and color them.  Coloring does not hold the charm it used to!  And I resorted to abbreviations–S for strip, W for white, etc.  I can accept that it is a random design.

A while back Vicki had tagged me for a meme on idiosyncrasies.  Both Kevin and I didn’t think I had any.  Truth be told–there are a few.  I like things to be even.  I fold my towels all the same way and face them the same way in the closet in size order.  The dishwasher–forget about it.  I have to reload it all the time after Kevin and the kids do it.  One of each utensil in the holder allRain_and_other_pics_192  facing opposing ways.  It’s ridiculous.  I was going to make this blanket that way but screwed up on the second strip.  And now it is random.  I can live with that.

The Debbie Bliss Ribbed Jacket was seamed today and needs to be blocked.  All the while waiting for the building inspector to come.  The house hasn’t passed inspection yet.  Sigh.  It will happen.

Odd thing about the even stuff–I don’t like even numbers.  I much prefer odd numbers.  Oh, the duality of life.
