A PSA May 18, 2006

Autism Every Day is a 13 minute video that shows what it is like to live with autism every day.  Not every child is the same as it is a spectrum disorder.  But they have many similarities.  Be warned–it is sad and even a bit disturbing.  I found it to be well done and thought I would share.

Owen is on his very first field trip EVER with his afternoon respite program.  I asked them not to lose him.  Next week is his education meeting.  I am a bit nervous about it as they are bringing up residential placement more and more frequently.  He’s not going anytime soon.

I’ll be sure and watch the video from home. The Most Beautiful issue of People had a feaure on an autism documentary. Is this the same one.

How heartbreaking that they are suggesting residential placement for your baby boy. Of course you are not ready for that!

Thank you for linking to that video. It truly is well done and an eye opener.

I’ll be praying for you, Owen and your IEP meeting.

They talk about residential placement already?
Of course he’s not going anywhere anytime soon, screw them for asking. They should let the parent bring something like that up first.

I hope Owen has a great time and does well on his field trip — where are they going?

    Hi Katy,

My yougest son’s name is Owen :).

What a really well done video! I’m a mom of a child with special needs and while he doesn’t have Autism, I am friends with several parents whose children have Autism. I hope the field trip went well! As you go into this education meeting…just remember you know Owen better than anyone else does and are the best at determining what he needs. I’ll be sending good thoughts your way.
