Gloria, I’m just not that in to you August 24, 2006

A_sweater_for_rhinebeck_001_1 You know, I was concerned about the color combination I chose.  As well as I love them together–I wondered if it could work for Gloria.  A swatch was knit–alright, I dove right into a sleeve–most knitters know they make the greatest swatch.  If only it didn’t look so clownish.  I brought it to breakfast this morning to show my mom (and dad) and my mother agreed–the blue is not doing the Silk Garden justice.  And the sleeves…I love bell sleeves–really, I do…but these are way too huge.  Margene says she modified hers and if I find the appropriate coordinating color–I will be modifying mine too.

Sigh.  I am sad.  It  would have been beautiful but alas, it was not meant to be.

Ooh now I’m disappointed for you. But you’re absolutely right, that blue is doing nothing for the Noro.

I’m not sure what color will. A deep tan maybe or a red?

  2. Carole Says:

So do you have a new plan?

  3. Samantha Says:

Too bad. Those colours would make for a really pretty baby blanket. 🙂

The blue just needs to be a bit darker…closer to the Noro blue. On the sleeve I just leftthe bell part off and started with the number of stitches after the decreases. Look how much you knit in just an evening. Find the right blue and go for it!!

Aw, too bad. I think a darker blue would work well, too — that Silk Garden needs to POP! I just went and had another look at Margene’s — yeah, that’s one nice-looking sweater, so I hope you find something that works! ; )

maybe I can’t see colors right on the screen, but I like it 🙂
The fabric is coming out grand.

  7. Kris Says:

I agree with Margene. A darker blue would probably pick up the Noro blues. Sorry it didn’t work out as you had hoped. I hate it when that happens!

Wow you’re posting a lot! A few hours ago, E’s bus driver from last year (the little bus, the luxury that came every morning to my front door) called to make sure she’s riding the bus this year. Wut!?! Transportation isn’t in her IEP, and I’ve heard that it’s really hard to get that once they’re in grade school. Bizarre-o. So I guess I’ll call the transportation people and find out what’s happening. If we’re still getting door-to-door service, great, but I think it’s some sort of fluke. Maybe I should send you this in an email, eh? 😉

On Gloria, what about a darker blue? (I’m all about blue!) Good luck!

    *hugs*

Listen to Margene–she’s a color expert! I’m so glad you’ve ripped out, are making modifications and waiting until you find a color you love with the Noro. If we can’t knit something we absolutely love, what’s the point, right?

  10. Stephanie Says:

I didn’t think it looked so bad but I agree a darker blue would be better to reduce the harsh contrast. Can’t wait to see what you come up with.

  11. Sara Says:

mmm, bummer. I’d go with a darker blue though…dark dusty blue. What a fabulous Noro color though – yum!

  12. Jean Says:

Hey there Katy! Good that you decided early on about the colors. I agree… a dark blue would really make the Noro colors snap.

it looks white on my screen ….. are you planning on finding a better blue, or are you ditching the project?
